Project Summary
One of the first projects I led when I came on as the Creative Director for Envision Technology Advisors was a design for a site specifically about the company’s virtualization solutions. The original design, which used a palette of oranges and browns, remained online for just under 2 years before an expansion in the company's virtualization services, and a new campaign centered around these new offerings, necessitated a redesign.
The original EnVirtualization design centered around an image of an antique clockface, contrasting the old time feel of the chosen imagery with the cutting-edge aspect of the company's virtualization practice. For the redesign, I wanted to do something alot different and our recent promotional materials, which centered around our “Empowered Desktop Virtualization” offering, provided the perfect platform for this new look and feel.
Working alongside another designer at Envision, Sarah O'Donnell, we came up with a campaign for our tradeshow and print materials that featured a happy robot built out of clearly outdated, legacy computer hardware. I really loved this visual and instantly wanted to use it on my redesign, as it added a sense of fun and whimsy to the site - something that was missing from the previous version, but which is really a big part of the attitude at Envision. This new look, which used a much cooler color scheme of greens and grays, coupled with a new sitemap, was our starting point for the new EnVirtualization.com.
While the new sitemap meant that we had to ditch many of the site's old pages and replace them with brand new ones, the backbone of the site - the original markup and CSS, was very solid, and we were able to leverage much of what I had built for the first iteration of the site for this latest version - although I did add a little CSS3 transition work on the navigation, along with a fun little hover effect on the main robot image for the homepage, and on the site's 404 page.
