Project Summary

This site, which was launched in mid-2008, was done through my work with The Computer Doctors. Little Compton Real Estate had a Web site that was in major need of a redesign. At the time, their site did not reflect the high-end homes that they specialize in or the small town feel of their geographic area of service (Little Compton, RI). An updated look, along with an easier to manage system of maintaining the property listings on their site, were key factors in their desire for a new Web presence.

I was responsible for the design of the new site and the coding of the templates for all the pages. The Computer Doctors integrated my templates with a listing management system that allows Little Compton Real Estate complete control over the display and management of the properties shown on their site.

At the onset of the design phase of this project, I was presented with the client’s logo (which I tweaked and updated for use on the new Web site – you can see their original logo in the footer of their site design). The first thing I noticed was there was a chicken in their logo? A chicken? Why would a real estate company selling fairly high-end homes have a chicken in their logo?

A quick Google search and scan of a Wikipedia page about Little Compton, Rhode Island later and I discovered that the Rhode Island Red (a breed of chicken) was originally bred in Adamsville, which is part of Little Compton. Furthermore, I discovered that Little Compton is the only place in the United States with a monument dedicated to a chicken (a monument which is now on the National Register of Historic Places). And so you learn something new every day.

Check out the site at www.littlecomptonre.com, and if you’re ever in Little Compton, be sure to check out the chicken monument!
