Project Summary
For the entire 2009 year, Envision Technology Advisors ran half page ads in the Providence Business News as part of their monthly 'technology showcase'. This was an interesting project since it allowed me to do some print work, which is something I do less and less of these days, and also because we knew up front that we would be doing twelve ads in total. This allowed me to think about the single ads themselves as part of a larger campaign, and while we didn't string the individual ads together with any sort of theme, we did take each month as an opportunity to promote a different Envision service in a way we had not done so previously. In addition to these 12 ads, we also ran an ad in the PBN's big 'Book of Lists' publication.
Initially, I was set to design all 12 of these ads - a challenge I was excited to undertake. Life and other obligations, however, got in the way and I ended up designing only 10 of the 12 ads. I have collected a few of my favorites here.
Two of these ads follow a similar theme - that of 'superheroes'. One of these ran in the monthly publication (the 'superpowers' ad) while another ran in the Book of Lists (the 'Adventures of Awesome Websiteman'). I actually designed the 'superpowers' ad based on an ad brainstorming session we had in the office, right around the time that I designed a similarly themed blog post for this site. You can certainly see the related influences on the two designs.
My personal favorite ad from this batch is the 'Envision Awesome-Os' cereal ad that I did, which includes some funny nutrition information and a message that still makes me laugh every time I read it - 'Part of your web site's well balanced breakfast!'
Now that the year of ads is over, I have been able to step back and look at the work as a whole. There's certainly some ads that were stronger than others and there were some ideas that I loved that never made it into production (the 'Nannerpus' ad was an office favorite), but I am happy to have had the chance to work on these ads and look forward to doing a campaign-style project again soon.
