Project Summary
When Envision Technology Advisors decided to attend a recent tradeshow event for one of our premier partners, Carousel Industries, we knew we wanted to do something different for our booth display. With only 8 feet by 8 feet to work with, we really had our work cut out for us.
We decided to design our banner (which actually 8' x 8' as well) to resemble a giant newspaper's front page. The goal was to catch people's attention from across the room and entice them to come by our booth to see what we were doing. Using an instantly recognizable layout like a newspaper, but at a ridiculously enlarged scale, we hoped that the display would strike people as both familiar and out of place and pique their curiosity.
For the design, I used the New York Times as my inspiration and had numerous front pages of this paper on my desk as I worked. The content of the paper, which was dubbed the ‘Envision and Carousel Times’ was centered around the Desktop Virtualization services that we offer. The paper was also dated for December of next year, so this ‘paper-from-the-future’ told of a great year for Envision and Carousel selling these services.
My favorite part of this design are the lower articles. Since they were so low on the banner, we used to have some fun with stories about Bigfoot and Flux Capicitors. I also made it a point to hide the EnVirtualization robot in the design, a practice I have begun doing with all our recent advertising.
In the end, the banner proved to be a big hit. Our booth definitely stood out and the humor and thought that went into our presentation, as well as our bold forecast for the coming year's sales, were well received by the audience at the event.
